INSTALLATION GUIDE

How to Add Lighting
Between Existing Pavers

Two retrofit options for your driveway, walkway, or patio.

You already have pavers. What are your options?

Option 1: Replace with the Same Size

The simplest approach when a light fits your existing border opening.

  • Remove one border paver
  • Replace it with a matching paver light
  • Check actual length, width and depth
  • Run wiring neatly along the outside edge

Option 2: Add a 0.5-Inch Super Slim Light

A subtle line of light between existing border pavers.

  • Remove one paver
  • Trim it to create the required opening
  • Install the slim light in the gap
  • Use compatible joint sand if needed

Start at the border. This guide keeps the lights in the border row and the main wiring along the side of the driveway or walkway.

Same-Size Paver Light Retrofit

Replace a selected border paver with a light that fits its opening.

1

Measure the border paver

Compare the opening and depth with the exact light dimensions.

2

Remove the border paver

Lift the selected paver. Prepare a level, supported opening.

3

Run the wire to the side

Route the fixture lead to the main cable outside the border.

4

Set the new paver light

Fit the matching light flush with the surrounding pavers.

Compare the actual fit, not just the size name. Formats discussed for this guide include 4 × 8, 6 × 6, 6 × 9, 9 × 9, 9 × 12, 3 × 9 and 2 × 9 inches. Confirm the selected model and its installation clearances.

For a 9-inch-wide border, a 6 × 9, 3 × 9 or 2 × 9 format may suit the layout. A smaller light can require a cut paver to fill the remaining space.

0.5-Inch Super Slim Retrofit

Create a narrow line of light between existing border pavers.

1

Remove the paver

Lift one border paver to create access for the light and wiring.

2

Trim the paver to fit

Measure the fixture and required joints before making the cut.

3

Insert the slim light

Dry-fit the paver and light. Route the lead wire to the side.

4

Reinstall and stabilize

Set the light flush. Use compatible polymeric sand in the joints if needed.

Measure before cutting. About 1 inch is a planning estimate, not a universal cut size. Check the exact fixture and joint requirements first.

Wiring Basics

A main line along the border, with a separate connection to each light.

Start at the transformer

Use a compatible low-voltage supply.

Keep the main line outside

Follow the landscape side of the border.

Tap each light

Connect each lead to the main line.

Leave service slack

Keep enough cable for future access.

Disconnect power before wiring. Match the transformer, cable and outdoor connectors to the selected lights. Test the system before final joint filling.

Retrofit Tips

Keep the finished border clean and serviceable.

  • Replace same size with same size whenever possible
  • If you choose a smaller light, cut and refit the remaining paver
  • Keep the lights level with the surrounding pavers
  • Test the lights before final sanding
  • Use warm white for the look shown in this guide
