What Makes a Paver Light the Best?

Five things separate a paver light that lasts from one you end up digging out after a season.

01

Sized like a real paver

The light replaces a standard paver (4 x 8, 6 x 9 and so on) or fits the joint between pavers, so it sits flush and moves with the paving.

02

Drive-over rated

A driveway light has to take car and truck tires. Look for a stainless steel frame and tempered glass, set on a firm, fully supported base.

03

Sealed to IP67 or better

IP67 means dust tight and safe from rain, snow, sprinklers and standing water.

04

12V low voltage

Low voltage is safe to work with around pavers and gives the same light every night, in every season.

05

A real warranty

Look for at least 3 years. Every Lumengy paver light has a 3-year replacement warranty and is supported from Los Angeles.

Wired vs Solar Paver Lights for Driveways

For a driveway, wired 12V paver lights are the better choice. They give steady light every night, in any season. Solar paver lights skip the wiring, but their light depends on how much direct sun each fixture got that day.

2700K vs 5000K for Driveway Lighting

2700K is a warm, golden white and our most popular color. 5000K is a crisp daylight white. In our line, the 5000K version of a size gives a little more light, for example 65 vs 50 lumens on the 4 x 8.

What You Need to Install Paver Lights

A wired system needs four things. Plan them before you order.

01

A 12V landscape transformer

Non-dimmable, 12V AC/DC, sold separately. Add up the watts of every light and keep the total at about 80% of the transformer rating. How to choose a transformer

02

Low-voltage cable

One main line along the run. Each Lumengy light has a 6-foot lead that connects to it.

03

Waterproof connectors

One per light, rated for burial, so every connection stays dry.

04

Lights and a layout

Pick the size and color for each spot, and plan where the cable runs before the pavers go down.

How Far Apart Should Paver Lights Be?

Spacing comes down to taste, and the best way to know is to test a few lights after dark. As a starting point, most walkways look good with a light every 4 to 6 feet, and driveways with one every 6 to 8 feet. Mark the edges, curves and entrances you want to show off first.

To see how different spacing looks before you buy, try the Paver Light Selector.

On an existing driveway, lift the pavers where each light goes, run the cable under the paving and reset them.

Installation safety

Turn the power off before making connections. Have an electrician install any new outdoor outlet for the transformer, and follow the instructions for your transformer and connectors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about choosing and installing paver lights.

What are the best paver lights for a driveway?

The best driveway paver lights are drive-over rated, sized to replace a real paver, sealed to IP67 or better and powered by 12V low voltage. Lumengy paver lights meet all four. They were designed by a paver contractor, are protected by U.S. design patents and come with a 3-year warranty.

Can you drive over paver lights?

Yes, if the light is drive-over rated and set on a firm base. Every Lumengy paver light is drive-over rated for cars and trucks. Set it level with the pavers around it, on the same compacted base.

What size paver light do I need?

Pick the light that matches the paver it replaces: a 4 x 8 light for a 4 x 8 paver, a 6 x 9 for a 6 x 9. Super Slim lights fit the joint between pavers, so match their length to the paver side they run along. The Paver Light Selector finds the size for you.

How far apart should paver lights be?

It comes down to taste, so test a few lights after dark before you set them. As a starting point, space them 4 to 6 feet apart along a walkway and 6 to 8 feet apart along a driveway. The Paver Light Selector shows how different spacing looks.

How much do paver lights cost?

Lumengy paver lights run from $39.99 for a 0.5 x 4 Super Slim to $159.99 for a 12 x 12, with free shipping on every order. You will also need a 12V transformer, cable and connectors.

Are paver lights waterproof?

Lumengy paver lights are rated IP67, and the Deck & Paver Light is rated IP68. Both are sealed against dust, rain, snow and sprinklers.

Is wired or solar better for a driveway?

Wired 12V. It gives the same light every night in every season. Solar depends on direct sun, so shade, clouds and winter shorten its runtime.

Do paver lights need a transformer?

Yes. Lumengy paver lights need a non-dimmable 12V AC/DC landscape transformer, sold separately. Each light has a 6-foot lead that connects to one main low-voltage line.

How many paver lights can one transformer run?

Add up the watts of every light and keep the total at about 80% of the transformer rating. A 100W transformer (80W usable) runs about 26 of the 6 x 9 lights at 3W each, or 50 Super Slim 0.5 x 8 lights at 1.6W each. Long cable runs also lose voltage, so plan the layout with your installer.

Can paver lights be added to an existing driveway?

Yes. Lift the pavers where each light goes, run the cable under the paving, set the lights level on a firm base and reset the pavers. Super Slim lights also work in existing paver areas; the joint is opened up to fit the light.

How long do LED paver lights last?

Lumengy paver lights are rated for up to 50,000 hours of light and covered by a 3-year replacement warranty.

Should I choose 2700K or 5000K?

2700K is a warm, golden white and our most popular color. 5000K is a crisp daylight white for a more modern look.

What warranty do Lumengy paver lights have?

Every Lumengy paver light has a 3-year replacement warranty and a 30-day return policy, with support based in Los Angeles.
